It’s Time to Advocate for the Issues Affecting Home Care and Hospice
Dear Colleague:
We’re Keeping Up the Fight for America’s
Future!
The year 2009 unequivocally reinforced the importance of engaging
lawmakers in Washington, D.C. when it comes to health care and
the particular needs of home care and hospice providers, with
the concerted congressional efforts in that vein. In unprecedented
fashion, NAHC held more in-person advocacy events here in the
Nation’s Capital than ever before, recognizing that it
is necessary to connect with legislators face-to-face and share
the stories that only hospice and home care providers can. The
President and Congress’ belief that controlling health
care costs is vital to the health of the economy means that changes
will be made, and NAHC and its members have worked hard to continue
to emphasize the high value and quality that home care and hospice
providers deliver to their patients every day.
For years, we’ve worked to educate members of Congress
about home care’s ability to transform and right a system
out of balance, and what it means to patients across the United
States. The nation’s problems with the spiraling costs
of health care didn’t happen overnight, and they won’t
be corrected overnight. All the while, the face of the nation
has been shifting dramatically with the burgeoning elder population,
and along with this changing construct must come new paradigms
within health care and an emphasis on high-quality, cost-effective
care delivered in the home and community, keeping patients where
they prefer to be and with their loved ones.
