Edgar Allan Poe has been dead since 1849 and yet his ghost continues to haunt Baltimore. Poe was one of Baltimore's greatest writers, poets, literary critics and lecturers. The museum itself is small, but a tour allows the literary enthusiast to capture a glimpse of Poe's brief life in Baltimore. Just around the corner is Poe's graveside. Since 1949, on the night of the anniversary of Poe's birth, a mysterious stranger has entered this cemetery and left as tribute a partial bottle of cognac and three roses on Poe's grave. The Poe House is generally open Wednesday-Saturday from noon-3:45 p.m.
