NAHC President Val J. Halamandaris was honored with the “Home Care Champion” award from the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts (HCAM) at the 2013 Home Care Innovations Showcase & Star Awards ceremony on May 1 at the Revere Hotel in Boston, MA.
“Home care agencies and home care beneficiaries have been fortunate to have Val Halamandaris as our champion in Washington, DC. For 40 years he has lead the fight for the rights of the most vulnerable of our citizens to be cared for in their homes. He has assured that home care has the type of bipartisan support in Washington, DC, that many other industries can only envy. The scope and quality of care that we are able to provide Massachusetts citizens every day is a direct result of his advocacy,” said Patricia M. Kelleher, Executive Director, Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts.
The Home Care Champion is the highest award bestowed by HCAM and recognizes an individual or organization that has advanced the image or cause of home care in Massachusetts, demonstrated industry leadership through innovation and vision, or has made outstanding contributions as an advocate for home care at a local, state-wide, or national level.
“I am truly honored and humbled to receive this award from the true heroes – those who everyday work to comfort and serve the ill and dying. There is no more important work than the work done daily to ensure that thepoorest, sickest and most vulnerable individuals of Americans are able to be cared for in the comfort of their home,” said Mr. Halamandaris.
On the same day that the NAHC President accepted the Home Care Champion Award, he also appeared on the Diane Rehm Show, a Washington, DC-based talk show on National Public Radio that is broadcast nationally. The topic for the show was the growing need for more home care aides.
