June 17, 2013 04:10 PM
The May 31 issue of Hospice Notes reported on introduction of S. 1053, the Hospice Evaluation and Legitimate Payment Act (HELP), by Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR).
As anticipated, Representative Tom Reed (R-NY) introduced the House companion version of the bill on June 6. The legislation was introduced in previous Congresses but underwent technical revisions prior to introduction by Senator Wyden and Representative Reed.
At the House bill’s introduction, H.R. 2302, had eight original bipartisan cosponsors: Representatives Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Gerald Connolly, (D-VA), Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), Steve King (R-IA), Michael Michaud (D-ME), Erik Paulsen (R- MN), Mike Thompson (D- CA), and C.W. Bill Young (R- FL).
NAHC’s Hospice Association of America (HAA) submitted a letter of endorsement to Congressman Reed prior to introduction.
NAHC/HAA members are encouraged to contact their Senators and Representatives and ask them to cosponsor this legislation.
