Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) speaking at this year's March on Washington / Private Duty Home Care Integrated Conference and Exposition
Representatives from the National Association of Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) - including NAHC President Val J. Halamandaris, Andrea Devoti, NAHC’s Board Chair, and Jane Kelly, Executive Director of the Kansas Home Care Association - met with Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) during a breakfast meeting that was held during the Financial Management Conference earlier this week. Senator Roberts is a longtime NAHC ally and is the Ranking Member of the powerful Senate Finance Committee’s Health Subcommittee, which has jurisdiction over Medicare and many other health-related topics.
The meeting was held at the Frederick Douglass Museum, and NAHC representatives reiterated the organization’s opposition to CMS’ new rebasing regulations directly to Senator Roberts. As a constituent of the Senator’s, Ms. Kelly was able to highlight what rebasing would mean for both the access to and quality of the home care that Kansas residents would be able to receive.
NAHC’s representatives outlined the serious deficiencies in the CMS proposed rule on home health payment rebasing. NAHC representatives also discussed the home care community’s opposition to home health copays during the meeting.
NAHC will be conducting a follow-up meeting to brief Senator Roberts and his staff further on the proposed rebasing rule and to seek Congressional oversight in the near future.
