During NAHC's Opening General Session of the 2013 Annual Meeting & Exposition, this year's Home Care & Hospice Nurse of the Year was awarded. Elaine Stephens introduced Dea Kuiper, this year's winner. Ms. Juniper has over 30 years experience in nursing.
"It is truly humbling to receive this great award," said Kuiper. "I am grateful to work for an agency that has stimulated me to grow as a nurse and a person. Though our agency is small, our imprint is large throughout the community. What does it take to take care of our clients? – Courage to knock on someone’s door and face a new situation, to make visits in poor neighborhoods. It takes courage to face your own vulnerabilities and then you can connect with your patients and make a difference in their lives."
This year's Nurse of the Year was highly praised by her employer, VNA Homecare and the organization's President and CEO Kate Rolf. "Dea Kuiper is the epitome of home care; compassionate, creative and incredibly hard working," said Ms. Rolf. "To have one of our own clinicians recognized on a national level is a first for our agency and a tremendous testament to the high caliber of care being delivered on a daily basis. We are incredibly proud that Dea is being recognized for the fine work she does on behalf of our pediatric patients and their families. The high standards she sets for herself are evidence of her commitment and we are very fortunate to have her as part of our team."
