On March 10, 2014, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a memorandum, “Part D Payment for Drugs for Beneficiaries Enrolled in Hospice -- Final 2014 Guidance,” (available here) directing Part D plans to institute a beneficiary-level prior authorization (PA) process for Part D enrollees receiving hospice care effective May 1, 2014.
At press time, CMS was scheduled to hold a Special Open Door Forum (ODF) during which hospices and other interested parties would have the opportunity to ask questions about the final guidance. Slides for the scheduled ODF are located in the “Spotlight” section of the Hospice Center Webpage here. As a general rule with Special ODFs, CMS provides access to a transcript and MP3 audio file approximately one week following the event that is available for 30 days under the "Downloads" section on the Special ODF webpage.
Questions on the Final 2014 Guidance may be sent to PARTDPOLICY@cms.hhs.gov.
