Please note the following changes in the Hospice PEPPER:
The “Live Discharges” target area has been revised to include all beneficiary episodes, not just those with a length of stay less than 25 days. Please see the Hospice PEPPER User’s Guidefor a complete target area definition.
The "State" comparison group now includes all hospices in a state. Previously, the "State" comparison group included all hospices in a state that were in the same Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) jurisdiction. As a result, state percentiles will differ from the previous PEPPER release.
PEPPER summarizes hospice-specific data statistics for Medicare services that may be at risk for improper payments. Hospices can use the data to support internal auditing and monitoring activities. Visit PEPPERresources.orgto access updated resources for using PEPPER, including recorded Web-based training sessions, a sample Hospice PEPPER and the Hospice PEPPER User’s Guide. Questions and requests for assistance may be submitted through the Help Desk. PEPPER is distributed by TMF® Health Quality Institute under contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
