Dear Colleague Letter Seeks Additional Support for Rebasing Bill
Bill, introduced by Rep. Hall, has the full support of NAHC which urges its members to ask their Representatives to support the measure
September 22, 2014 09:21 AM
Just prior to adjourning for their latest Recess, Congressmen Ralph Hall (R-TX), Pete Olson (R-TX), Dave Loebsack (D-IA), and Bruce Braley (D-IA) sent a Dear Colleague letter to every member of the House of Representatives inviting other Members to cosponsor the Medicare Home Health Rebasing Relief and Reassessment Act (H.R. 4625). NAHC fully supports this legislation, and the cosigners of the letter have asked for NAHC’s support in getting more Representatives to sign-on as cosponsor this bipartisan legislation.
A copy of the Dear Colleague letter can be found here.
H.R. 4625 would suspend the rebasing rule for 12 months and require that CMS reassess the rule and submit a report to Congress on alternative rebasing methods, including methods offered by stakeholders. NAHC and the Texas Association for Home Care & Hospice were involved in drafting the legislation and getting it introduced.
Please take a moment to contact your Representatives in the House and ask that they cosponsor this legislation. It is especially important to get Democratic Representatives on board as quickly as possible to maintain a bipartisan balance.
For contact information, please go here: Contact Your Elected Officials.
If calling, ask the receptionist to connect you with the staffer who handles health care issues. To send an email message requesting that they cosponsor the bill, you may use the NAHC Legislative Action Network here.
In addition to talking points and background information, there is a sample message that can be personalized by adding background information, where you live, and what impact the rebasing rule will have on home health care in the district.
A link to the bill’s language and other legislative activity can be found here.
The following Members of Congress have joined Hall, Olson, Loebsack, and Braley as cosponsors of H.R. 4625:
Markwayne Mullin (R-OK)
Randy Neugebauer (R-TX)
Stevan Pearce (R-NM)
Mac Thornberry (R-TX)
Walter Jones (R-NC)
Michael Michaud (D-ME)
Henry Cuellar (D-TX)
Members of Congress have already adjourned, and won’t be back in session until after the November elections. It is important for NAHC advocates to keep up the effort to find more cosponsors during the recess. Although Representatives can’t officially cosponsor a bill during recess, they can communicate their commitment to do so when they return for a lame duck session after the election. If the health staffers say they haven’t seen the Dear Colleague letter, please offer to forward it to them.
