The proposed revisions to the skilled nursing facility (SNF)-based hospice cost report were recently posted on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) website.
As reported previously, on May 1, 2015, CMS published notice in the Federal Registerthat proposed revisions to the Skilled Nursing Facility and Skilled Nursing Facility Health Care Complex Cost Report Form would be made available for review, with a 60-day period for submission of public comments on the changes. After the 60-day comment period closes, it is expected that CMS will announce a second, 30-day public comment period. NAHC and its affiliate, the Hospice Association of America (HAA), will submit comments on the proposed revisions.
As part of efforts to secure more detailed data from hospice programs to support payment reform, CMS has been revising cost reporting requirements for hospices. The first set of revisions -- applicable to freestanding hospices-- significantly expanded reporting requirements and became effective with cost reporting years beginning on or after October 1, 2014. CMS is proposing that these changes for SNF-based hospices would also be applicable to cost reporting years beginning on or after October 1, 2014.
