The geographic areas covered by the moratoria are Floridacounties of Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe; Illinoiscounties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will; Michigancounties of Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne; and Texascounties of Brazoria, Chambers, Collin, Fort Bend, Galveston, Dallas, Harris, Liberty, Denton, Ellis, Kaufman, Montgomery, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Waller. The extension maintains the moratoria in the same geographic areas as previously and does not expand its geographic application.
Under the authority provided in the 2010 Affordable Care Act, CMS can impose geographic specific, time-limited moratoria in any Medicare and/or Medicaid provider or supplier sector. The moratoria are limited to six months in duration, but CMS has the power to endlessly extend a moratorium in six month segments.
The extension is effective July 29, 2015.
