At the 2015 Annual Meeting, the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) provided an overview of its year in digital and social media advocacy, in addition to awarding the 2015 Home Care & Hospice Digital Advocate of the Year. Richard Brennan, Vice President for Government Affairs and Technology Policy at NAHC, and Jeb Ory, co-founder and CEO of Phone2Action, provided an update on NAHC’s digital and social media efforts on October 29, at the 2015 Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee.
It was “a great year of advocacy,” Brennan said, adding his congratulations to NAHC members on their impressive work. “Whatever your perception of Washington, D.C.—of the ‘do-nothing’ Congress—I do know that there is one thing that matters to them, and that is when you tell them what matters to you,” Brennan said. “Using NAHC’s Legislative Action Center this year, we’ve reached millions through our advocacy and engagement on Capitol Hill and across the country.”
Here are the statistics regarding NAHC’s advocacy efforts in 2015:
Advocates Taking Action in 2015 – 2,316
Number of Emails Sent to Lawmakers – 9,235
Lawmakers Contacted – 516 (out of 535)
Best Social Media Week – March on Washington – 68,300 impressions
Number of Facebook Posts on Lawmaker Pages – 264
NAHC presented the 2015 Home Care & Hospice Advocate of the Year award to Jean Gonynor of Nightingale Homecare in Phoenix, Arizona. In 2015 Ms. Gonynor participated in 11 of NAHC’s campaigns, sending 87 messages to her officials over email, Twitter, and Facebook. In presenting the award, Brennan said, “This is the type of engagement that sends a clear message to our officials in Washington, D.C.”
It was a great year in advocacy for NAHC members, because NAHC understands that we live in a digital world. Our world is increasingly mobile: 90% of Americans own a cell phone; 83% of Americans use text messaging daily; and 73% of Americans own a smartphone.
