NAHC, Affiliates Releases Hospice Payment Reform White Paper
February 17, 2016 11:44 AM
The National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) and its Home Care & Hospice Financial Managers Association (HHFMA) and Hospice Association of America (HAA) jointly have issued a Hospice Payment Reform White Paper that was developed in recent months by a working group of the HHFMA. The White Paper contains a narrative discussion of the proposed and final Medicare payment reform changes effective for services provided on or after January 1, 2016. The paper provides an overview of the two payment levels for routine home care (RHC) and the Service Intensity Add-on (SIA), impact of the changes on claims submission and processing (with information on special circumstances that apply when SIA days cross a month’s end), guidance on the impact of the changes on revenue recognition for gross revenue, and other issues.
In related news, late last year NAHC issued a Q & A document on RHC payment changes and the SIA; the document is available here for reference.
The Hospice Payment Reform White Paper is available for review here and on the HHFMA’s Member Resources page. Special thanks to Dave Macke of Von Lehman CPA and Advisory Firm and Patrick Brown of Penn Home Care and Hospice Services, as well as all members of the working group, for their contribution to this effort.
