Guidelines for Building Use
General Information
The Frederick Douglass Museum and Hall of Fame for Caring Americans is operated by the National Association for Home Care (NAHC). The museum is an ideal venue for receptions, sit-down, dinners, conferences and meetings. Use of the facilities shall respect the physical and logistical limitations based on the historic character, as well as the responsibility carried by the Museum for the preservation of its artistic collections. Restrictions may result from scheduling requirements and staffing limitations of the Museum.
Use of the facility shall respect all local laws and conform to the guidelines outlined below The museum is owned by the National Association of Homecare and Hospice. A signed contract will be negotiated between NAHC and the tenant.
The Museum requires, without exception, the user and caterer to obtain a certificate of insurance from their insurance carrier station that they have in force bodily injury, liquor and property damage liability protection, as detailed in our Rental Agreement.
Their shall be no events taking place in the museum that exclude the Events Manager from being present.
The Frederick Douglass museum is ADA compliant.
Equipment
The Frederick Douglas Museum does not provide any of the following:
- Tables
- Chairs
- Linens
- Flowers
- Music or AV Equipment
- Eating or Drinking Utensils
Please contact catering or event company regarding any of the above equipment.
Food and Beverage
The museum has a full service kitchen for food and beverage functions. All food functions within the museum must be professionally catered. No tenant may use the kitchen for preparation of their own food, however tenant may bring in prepared food (pizza, ice cream, sandwiches etc) at discretion of Event Manager. Likewise, all alcohol must be served by a licensed caterer, or client must obtain alcohol license. Certificates of liability and alcohol licenses will be collected by the Event Manager prior to the event. No caterer will be allowed to operate inside the museum without proper documentation. It is up to the tenant to make sure Event Manager has contact name of caterer so proper documentation can be obtained.
Deliveries:
Tenant should schedule deliveries of rental equipment, liquor, etc. as soon as possible with the Event Manager.
Tenting:
The Courtyard must be tented if the Museum is rented for a function that takes place out on the courtyard (bar, tables, DJ or band is located there) and has no rental provisions in the museum for a back-up in case of rain.
