Description: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a major home health regulation late Friday. The proposal released by CMS presents the first full scale reform of the Medicare home health prospective payment system (HHPPS) since its inception in October 2000. The proposal calls for an increase from 80 to 153 HHRGs, major changes to the current 10 visit therapy threshold, and addition to and realignment of the clinical and functional case-mix domains. The proposal includes an additional element that cuts the payment rates from current levels by 2.75 percent for each of the next three years, beginning in 2008. All home health agencies are urged to participate in this teleconference to learn the basics of the proposed changes and be prepared to analyze and comment on the financial impact. A question and answer period will also be provided.
