Minnesota Signs Memorandum of Understanding with CMS: Becomes Partner in Medicare-Medicaid Dual Eligibles Integration Effort

On September 12, 2013, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Minnesota Department of Human Services (MDHS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishing a Demonstration to Align Administrative Functions for Improvements in Beneficiary Experience (Demonstration). The Demonstration began on September 13, 2013 and will continue until December 31, 2016.

The documentation requirements have become more stringent recently with contractors now expecting physicians to write detailed descriptions of the patient’s condition in order to support the need for skilled services and homebound status.

Advocates Provide Guides and Tips for New Florida MLTSS Program

In September, the National Senior Citizens Law Center (NSCLC), along with the Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys and Florida Legal Services Inc., released guides and tips for beneficiaries regarding Florida’s transition from fee for service (FFS) to managed long-term services and supports (MLTSS). This program is called the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-term Care Program (the Program), has an effective date of July 1, 2013 and will last for three years.
