Home Health, Hospice Community Should Participate on Thursday, October 31

The home care and hospice community must continue to be involved and present a unified message as lawmakers continue their efforts to reduce the nation’s deficit and offset the cost of fixing the flawed Medicare physician payment formula - known as the “physician fix”. Val J. Halamandaris, President, National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) was honored with the “Home Care and Hospice Hero Award” from the Ohio Council for Home Care & Hospice (OCHCH) at the 2013 Fall Conference & Tradeshow Annual Awards Luncheon on September 12 in Columbus, Ohio. The Home Care and Hospice Hero Award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the improvement and advancement of home care and hospice during their career.

CMS Study Evaluates Utilization among Dual Eligibles

In August, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) released a study titled Effect of Long-term Care Use on Medicare and Medicaid Expenditures for dual Eligible and Non-dual Eligible Elderly Beneficiaries. Among other things, the study evaluated differences in case mix and expenditures of dual and non-dual beneficiaries in the community setting receiving Medicaid long-term care (LTC) and medical services, and compared institutional and community expenditures for LTC.

CMS Issues Changes to Home Health Beneficiary Notices

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released Change Requests 8403 and 8404 that announce changes to the Home Health Advanced Beneficiary Notice (HHABN) and instructs agencies on the use of the Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) and the Home Health Change of Care Notice (HHCCN).

NAHC Attends Fall Retreat for Democratic Senators

Jeff Kincheloe, Vice President for Government Affairs for the National Association of Home Care & Hospice (NAHC), met with Democratic Senators and their Chiefs of Staff during the annual fall retreat for Democratic Senators. Senators attending the fall retreat included Senator Max Baucus, Chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee, which has jurisdiction over Medicare and Medicaid.
