An Update on CMS’ Hospice Vaccine Proposal

CMS recently provided an update to NAHC and its affiliate Hospice Association of America (HAA) on its vaccines proposal under Medicare Part D. For more on this issue, please see NAHC Report, January 14, 2014.

While CMS cannot simply rescind Change Request 8098 - under which edits were set up effective October 1, 2013 that deny payments for vaccines administered to hospice patients by any provider other than a hospice - CMS will be issuing a new Change Request to revise the system edits.  The new Change Request will be issued in the coming weeks and will be effective April 1.

In the meantime, CMS plans to issue a provider notification for vaccine suppliers to either hold claims for hospice patients or request adjustments after the April Change Request is implemented.
