Bill to Delay the Employer Mandate for Certain Medicare and Medicaid Providers Introduced in the House
Legislation would provide reprieve from the ACA’s employer mandate for Medicare and Medicaid-dependent businesses – including home health agencies and hospices – until January 1, 2016

The National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) and its affiliate Home Healthcare Nurses Association (HHNA) recently announced the top 10 finalists for Home Care & Hospice Nurse of the Year. Now NAHC and HHNA invite their members, affiliated state associations, and the general public to visit NAHC’s website and vote for this year’s winner. The 2014 Home Care & Hospice Nurse of the Year will be announced at the NAHC Annual Meeting & Exposition on October 19 - 22, 2014 at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
When the meeting convenes, the top nurse and nine final contenders will come before NAHC members and get the recognition they deserve. “It is most appropriate that we make the effort to identify and celebrate the best among us, the nurses who distinguish themselves by the size of their hearts, by their professionalism, and by their work ethic,” said Andrea L. Devoti, RN, chairman of the NAHC board of directors. “Our focus is to highlight the impact that nurses make day in and day out in homes across the country, despite the challenges they face,” she explained. “And it’s time for the public to honor nurses and thank them for all they contribute,” added Elaine D. Stephens, RN, NAHC executive Vice President and current chairman of HHNA. “This is our chance to remind everyone how hard it is for nurses to do their vital work while facing senseless cuts in reimbursement.”

An Update to Hospice Claims for Pumps from CGS

Correction to Inappropriately Returned Hospice Claims — Hospices are required to report certain prescription drugs and durable medical equipment items, effective April 1, 2014; see MLN Matters® Article MM8358. Currently, some hospice claims reporting these items are being returned to providers in error. These claims are returned with reason codes W7061 and W7072.

CMS had directed Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) that process hospice claims to override these reason codes, so the claims will process appropriately. MAC implementation dates for this correction may vary, so hospices should check their MAC Website for the date to begin resubmitting the returned claims.

Note from CGS: Claims with reason code W7061 and W7072 are currently suspended in status location S M7061 and S M7072. Within the next two weeks, CGS will release these claims to continue processing.

It is important to note that CMS indicated during last week's Open Door Forum that the MACs may be implementing the fix in different time frames, so while CGS has provided a time frame Palmetto and NGS' time frames may be different.
