CMS Releases FY2015 Hospice Medicaid Rates

On September 10, 2014, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) posted FY2015 Medicaid rates by level of care for hospice services.  The letter to Associate Regional Administrators is available online here.

Medicaid hospice rates vary slightly from those of Medicare - as the Medicare rates include the assumption that providers are able to assess copayments for prescription medications to beneficiaries.  As is the case under Medicare, CMS provides two tables with rates -- one for hospices that have complied with Medicare quality reporting requirements and one for those providers who have not submitted required data, and are subject to a 2 percentage point reduction in their market basket update. 

CMS also provides, as part of the tables, the portion of payment that is subject to the wage index.

Senator Rob Portman Confirmed as a General Session Speaker at NAHC’s Annual Meeting and Exposition

Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) has been confirmed as another speaker at NAHC’s Annual Meeting & Exposition this year being held October 19 – 22 in Phoenix, AZ. Mr. Portman has been a long-time advocate for hospice and home care and together with Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) helped write amendments that created and modernized the hospice benefit.

Senator Portman serves on the Committees on Finance, which oversees Medicare and Medicaid, Budget, Homeland Security & Government Affairs and Energy and Natural Resources.  He is also Vice Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee and has been mentioned as a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2016.

NAHC Announces Finalists for Home Care & Hospice Nurse of the Year Award

NAHC recently announced the top ten finalists for the Home Care & Hospice Nurse of the year. Voting continues until September 30 to select this year’s winner.

This year’s ten finalists, in no particular order, are:
