NAHC Encourages its Members to Ask Lawmakers to Preserve Access to Rural Home Health Services
House and Senate home health champions poised to introduce extension legislation when Congress returns after the election

In 2010 the Patient Protection and Affordable Care (ACA) reinstated a 3 percent payment add on for home health services delivered to residents of rural areas.  Under the legislation the rural add-on payment became effective for visits ending on or after April 1, 2010, and before January 1, 2016. The rural add on is now scheduled to again expire at the end of 2015.

NAHC strongly believes that Congress should extend the 3 percent payment differential for home health services delivered in rural areas. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) and Representative Greg Walden (R-OR) have championed the rural add-on in the past, and have expressed interest in introducing legislation to extend it for another five years when Congress returns for its “lame duck” session after the election.

NAHC’s Forum of State Associations Chair Quoted in the Washington Post

In just 20 days – on November 4 - the Midterm elections will be held and will determine the make-up of both chambers of Congress. 33 Senate seats and the entire House of Representitives is standing for election this cycle. At stake is the control of the United States Senate, and the size of the GOP majority in the House. The Midterm elections will inevidably shake-up of the Congressional committees that work on issues that are important to the home care and hospice community.

NAHC members have a rare and important opportunity to engage with their House and Senate candidates and ask questions that could affect the entire home care and hospice community once the new Congress is sworn in.

NAHC is urging home care and hospice advocates to contact those who are running for Congress back in the state and districts over the election recess to raise home care and hospice concerns and ask for support.
