NAHC Video Now Available: Reception Honoring 50th Anniversary of Medicare & Medicaid
On July 30, 2015, the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations (LCAO), including the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC), held a reception honoring the 50th Anniversary of Medicare, Medicaid and the Older Americans Act. The reception was held in the Kennedy Caucus Room in the Russell Senate Building. In attendance with the LCAO and NAHC to cut the cake celebrating these important programs was Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), Chair of the Senate Aging Committee, as well as Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI).
Max Richtman, President of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, provided opening remarks and then introduced NAHC President Val J. Halamandaris. In his remarks, Halamandaris said it was a “great honor” to introduce Senator Collins as someone who leads through caring. “I will tell you from experience there is no more caring person on the planet than Senator Susan Collins,” Halamandaris said.
Senator Collins, in turn, called Halamandaris a “man of compassion.”
“Val has dedicated his life to our seniors, to preserving the important programs such as the ones we celebrate today, and it is truly an honor to be recognized and introduced by him,” Senator Collins said.
