Home Health Care Planning Improvement Act Reaches 200 Cosponsors in U.S. House of Representatives

The National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) is pleased to announce that the Home Health Care Planning Improvement Act (H.R. 1342), which would allow non-physician practitioners to certify home health care services, has reached the milestone number of 200 cosponsors in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Senate version (S. 578) has 50 cosponsors, just one short of a majority.

On July 16, seven additional bipartisan House members added their names as cosponsors of this crucial legislation. The most recent cosponsors include: Rep. Robert A. Brady (D-PA-1), Rep. Dave Brat (R-VA-7), Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL-5), Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL-8), Rep. Robert Hurt (R-VA-5), Kathy Castor (D-FL-14), and Michael K. Simpson (R-ID-2).

Once again, this ongoing progress shows the continued effectiveness of NAHC’s advocacy efforts, as well as the in-person visits by advocates and fly-in efforts by state affiliates. NAHC’s government affairs staff continues to schedule meetings with members on both sides of the aisle.

Notice to Hospices Failing Quality Reporting Requirements to be Mailed by June 29

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that by June 29, 2016, it expects to have mailed notifications to hospices that are not in compliance with Hospice Quality Reporting requirements for calendar year 2015, which will impact payments during fiscal year 2017. For CY 2015 (FY 2017) and after, CMS considers both Hospice Item Set (HIS) and Hospice CAHPS® survey data from January 1 through December 31 to determine the Annual Payment Update (APU) compliance threshold. If you receive a notice of non-compliance, you have the opportunity to submit a request for reconsideration on quality data submissions affecting your FY 2017 APU. See the instructions in your notification letter and on the Reconsideration Requests webpage.
