Patrick O’Connor, Acclaimed Film Producer, to Speak and the NAHC Annual Meeting
Documentary on Homecare to Premier at Orlando Convention

Val J. Halamandaris, President of NAHC proudly announced that Patrick O’Connor, a highly regarded film Producer, will speak and screen his prize winning feature length film starring nurse practitioner Jessica Macleod at the NAHC Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida on October 23-25.

O’Connor has just completed work on a feature length documentary starring Jessica Macleod, a nurse practitioner going about her work providing homecare to several patients.

“We are proud to bring this film to the attention of our members.  It is a highly moving and highly professional depiction of what Mother Teresa called ‘loving from the heart.’ The film will make everyone even more proud of the work to which all of us have given our lives,” said Halamandaris.

At the center of the film is Macleod, a nurse who typically treats eight to ten patients a day in their homes. “When you go to someone’s house to see them, you’re telling them, ‘I value you enough as a person to come see you where you are,” says Macleod. “Nobody talks about it, but I think these people feel like ‘I’m kind of special,’ you know? They’re coming to see me, or at least someone cares.”

CMS Open Door Forum Summary

CMS held a Home Health, Hospice and DME Open Door Forum (ODF) on August 23.  A summary of the call is below.

Home Health

1. CMS contractor, Abt Associates, delivered a presentation - Home Health Payment Reform – The Home Health Groupings Model (HHGM). The HHGM is still being developed and a Technical Report will be released on it later this year. The HHGM addresses some concerns with the current Medicare home health payment structure, as identified by MedPAC (Medicare Payment Advisory Commission).  The HHGM requires no change to how the OASIS is currently completed but uses 30-day time periods instead of 60 day periods.  According to Abt Associates this would better align payment with costs since episodes have more visits on average during the first 30 days than the last 30 days.
