Now available, the National Association for Home Care & Hospice has launched a special tool using the NAHC web site at www.nahc.org to help home care and hospice workers affected by the hurricane disaster. The free tool will allow home care and hospice employers to post job listings in the Gulf Coast region and also across the country for home care professionals who, like others affected by Katrina, are now scattered across the 50 states with family and friends, many only temporarily. In addition, NAHC has also launched a national media campaign to publicize that its 1-888-HOMECARE line is now open for workers from the disaster areas who are seeking help finding work or connecting with their agencies.
It is important to note that there will be great need for home care and hospice workers in the Gulf Coast region itself, so the focus of this effort will be on helping agencies in these areas get up and running with the personnel they need and the workers there to find job placement, as well as on temporary positions across the other states for those who need to find immediate work.
For workers affected by the disaster: Call toll-free (888) HOMECARE and let us know your situation and whether you are a nurse, aide, etc. The hotline is available immediately but is being operated by NAHC staff, so you must call during office hours (9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST, Monday - Friday).
For employers: Please forward information on job availabilities in the Gulf Coast region or immediate temporary positions elsewhere by email or by phone at (202)547-7424, ext. 3406. Include agency name, address, phone number, and category of workers sought.
In other news, the Nursing2005 Foundation has opened a fund to help nursing students and faculty members who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina recover from their losses. The organization notes it is sending blast emails to nurses across the country to tell them about the opportunity to contribute to the fund, and that "100 percent of all donations will go to students and schools of nursing. The Nursing2005 Foundation also is contacting nursing faculty and students living in Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi to let them know about the fund and asking about their needs now -- and NAHC Report is helping them get the message heard. If you know a nursing student or faculty member in the affected states, please forward this information to them.
"We want to know what you need at this time and how we might help," the foundation says in a statement. Tell them your story and needs by emailing jbenner@lww.com or mail to:
