:: Home Care Resources on the Pandemic Threat

"According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the virus causing avian flu is very similar in its DNA to the deadly strain that paralyzed America and the world in 1918. The CDC projects as many as 90 million Americans may be affected with over 10 million hospitalized and almost 2 million deaths. Because the virus is new, there is no human immunity to it, and no precise immunization has been developed to protect Americans."

The role of the home care industry received validation nationwide in large part because of its response to the pandemic of l918. There is no doubt that doctors and hospitals will once again be quickly overwhelmed in the event of this kind of world-wide disaster. Home care will once gain be called upon to play a primary role in the nation's response and we intend to be ready. The Caring Institute and its affiliated National Association for Home Care & Hospice have gathered these resources together to assist health care providers, patients, and others in preparing for a potential pandemic."
