Voting Closes TODAY!

National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) President Val J. Halamandaris has once again been selected as a finalist by Modern Healthcare for its annual 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare issue. He has been placed on the prestigious list numerous times in recent years.
Each year, the editors of Modern Healthcare solicit nominations for the most powerful people in U.S. health care. Hundreds of nominations are received. During the summer, any interested parties may vote for their top choices on the magazine’s website. The results are then tabulated in August and arranged from number one (the person receiving the most votes) through number 100, which is the end cutoff number. For Halamandaris to be on the list and comparatively high on it is impressive considering the size of the home care and hospice community as compared, for example, to insurance companies and hospitals.
However, Halamandaris is far from alone in the running. Numerous health care groups are stepping up their efforts to have their leaders recognized on this list during this historic year when critical negotiations are under way in Congress and with the Administration relative to enactment of comprehensive health care reform legislation that would make health care available to all Americans.
While NAHC supports health care reform, it has taken the position that the extension of health care for all must not come at the expense of the 3.5 million Americans who are so sick they are confined to home and need help with multiple complex medical problems. It is imperative that NAHC’s voice be heard during this debate.
NAHC Board Chairman Michele Quirolo is encouraging everyone in home care and hospice to help make a show of strength by voting for Val J. Halamandaris on this exclusive list. “It is vitally important to the home care and hospice community that Val be included even higher up on this list this year,” said Quirolo.
In Washington, “perception is reality,” Quirolo explained. “You have only as much power as people believe you have. The Modern Healthcare list is one means for measuring clout in Washington. We need to arm our President in the coming debate with all the resources we can. He deserves this recognition in his own right and as our representative. The higher Val is up on this list the greater the perception of the influence that we will have in the forthcoming decisions on health care reform.”
